Free Screening Warrior, the Life of Leonard Peltier

On Thursday, March 29th at 6:00 pm the Library and El Morro Theatre partner to bring you the film Warrior, The Life of Leonard Peltier.

This is the definitive feature documentary about American Indian activist, Leonard Peltier. His story is told within the context of the American Indian Movement, the US federal government, and the multi-national companies interested in mining the land in South Dakota. A discussion moderated by special guest Jean Roach, of the Mnicoujou Lakota from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe will follow.

Film: The Most Dangerous Man in America

On Thursday, February 15th at 5:30 pm

The Library will screen the film The Most Dangerous Man in America a documentary about Daniel Ellsberg, a leading American military strategist who leaked the Pentagon Papers.  The film looks at Ellsberg himself and at the repercussions of his surprising revelations, which led to a media circus and ultimately contributed to the end of both the Vietnam conflict and the presidency of Richard Nixon.

Film: I Am Not Your Negro

Saturday, February 10th at 3:00 pm

The Library will screen the film I Am Not Your Negro at Octavia Fellin Library.

This documentary is based on the unfinished manuscript by James Baldwin. His book was going to be a personal account of the lives and assassinations of three of his close friends: Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. The film is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and explores the history of racism in the United States through Baldwin’s reminiscences of the civil rights movement.

Vietnam War Documentary Film Finale

On Monday December 4th at 5pm, the Library presents “The Weight of Memory,” the final episode of The Vietnam War, film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick offered as part of a grant from the American Library Association, PBS and WETA Washington, DC.

Following the film screening the Library will host a closing reception to honor Veterans and to thank the Gallup Veterans Helping Veterans for their help and support with this program. This event is open to the public.

Two showings are scheduled at the Veterans Helping Veterans Center: November 6th at 10am and November 20th at 10am. There will also be screenings at the library on November 13th and November 27th at 5pm.
