Free Screening of Victoria and Abdul

On Saturday, March 17th at 2:00 pm, the Library and El Morro Theatre partner to bring you the film Victoria and Abdul.

The film is based on the extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria’s (Academy Award winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen herself. The two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy.

This film is rated PG-13.

Film: The Most Dangerous Man in America

On Thursday, February 15th at 5:30 pm

The Library will screen the film The Most Dangerous Man in America a documentary about Daniel Ellsberg, a leading American military strategist who leaked the Pentagon Papers.  The film looks at Ellsberg himself and at the repercussions of his surprising revelations, which led to a media circus and ultimately contributed to the end of both the Vietnam conflict and the presidency of Richard Nixon.

Film: I Am Not Your Negro

Saturday, February 10th at 3:00 pm

The Library will screen the film I Am Not Your Negro at Octavia Fellin Library.

This documentary is based on the unfinished manuscript by James Baldwin. His book was going to be a personal account of the lives and assassinations of three of his close friends: Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. The film is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and explores the history of racism in the United States through Baldwin’s reminiscences of the civil rights movement.

Vietnam War Documentary Film Finale

On Monday December 4th at 5pm, the Library presents “The Weight of Memory,” the final episode of The Vietnam War, film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick offered as part of a grant from the American Library Association, PBS and WETA Washington, DC.

Following the film screening the Library will host a closing reception to honor Veterans and to thank the Gallup Veterans Helping Veterans for their help and support with this program. This event is open to the public.

Documentary Double Feature @ El Morro Theatre

On Thursday November 9th beginning at 10:30am, the El Morro opens for a special double feature presented by the Octavia Fellin Public Library. Beginning with the documentary film, Searching for Home: Coming Back From War an exploration of our honored Veterans’ homecoming, followed by The Vietnam War by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. Film screenings will be followed by an open discussion led by area veterans. This event is free.

The Library is hosting a free screening of “Awake: A Dream From Standing Rock” at El Morro Theatre on Friday, November 3rd at 6:00 PM with a discussion to follow.
